Sacred MIDI to MML v0.13.11

App Overview

• MIDI to MML: Load a MIDI file, convert it into editable cards, preview them together, split or combine cards, and export the result.
• MML to MIDI: Paste existing MML, preview it, optimize it, edit it visually, and save it back to MIDI.
• Shared MML: Browse public submissions, manage your own saved songs, and open stored card sets directly from the database.

MIDI to MML Workflow

Loading and Main Controls

• Click CHOOSE MIDI FILE and select a .mid or .midi file.
• TEMPO TRACK preserves tempo changes by generating the dedicated tempo anchor track needed for playback timing.
• SUSTAIN PEDAL applies CC64 sustain data from the MIDI file.
• NOTE VOLUME preserves velocity by emitting v commands in the MML.
• INFINITE MML TRACKS lets conversion exceed the normal 10-track copy limit. Cards above 10 MML tracks can still preview, but COPY MML CODE is disabled until they are reduced to 10 or fewer.
• The top control rows become sticky while cards are visible so preview, combine, clear, and conversion controls stay reachable while scrolling.

After Conversion

• Click CONVERT TO MML to generate the card board.
• The top action row includes PREVIEW ALL, COMBINE SELECTED, and CLEAR ALL.
• Each card starts with the MIDI patch/program detected for that track whenever program-change data exists in the source file.
• Recursive splits and chained combines are supported. Split cards keep unique IDs so all cards can still preview together in sync.
• Split/combined cards now preserve tempo placement well enough to stay synchronized during PREVIEW ALL.

Track Cards

• The card title line such as PLAYER 1 is clickable and editable.
• The track subtitle line such as TRACK: Strings is also clickable and editable.
• Instrument: Change the preview instrument at any time.
• VOL %: Adjusts per-card playback and regeneration volume handling.
• TRANSPOSE: Regenerates through the robust optimization path so repeated changes do not keep bloating the card.
• MIN TRACKS: Sets the optimizer floor for that card and persists until you load a new MIDI file or use CLEAR ALL.
• MAX TRACKS: Limits note editing density in the piano roll. If a new or moved note would exceed the limit, the action is rejected with a warning.
• OPTIMIZE: Optimizes only that one card while respecting that card's MIN TRACKS.
• COMBINE: Check multiple cards, then use the top combine action to merge them.
• SPLIT: Breaks a large card into multiple cards for easier copying and assignment.

Card Actions

• COPY MML CODE: Copies the visible card only. The button is disabled if the card uses more than 10 MML tracks.
• PREVIEW: Plays that card only.
• ECHO FX: Adds delayed echo voices to the current card output.
• MUTE: Mutes that card during group preview.

Piano Roll Editing

• Open a card preview to use its piano roll editor.
• Notes are meant to snap to the selected duration grid when inserted, moved, or resized.
• Dragging and keyboard edits regenerate the card through the same cleanup path used by re-convert so character counts and track counts stay honest.
• While dragging or resizing a note, hold Shift for finer 64th-note control instead of the normal selected grid.
• All piano rolls preview according to the current MML, not stale MIDI note data.
• When TEMPO TRACK is on, the hidden tempo anchor is used for timing but is no longer treated as an editable note lane.
• While using keyboard note entry, the piano roll now scrolls forward smoothly instead of jumping abruptly once the insert point passes the center of the visible window.
• If note placement would exceed the current MAX TRACKS value, the app shows Not enough available tracks at that location.

Keyboard Shortcuts

• Left / Right: Lower or raise pitch.
• Up / Down: Move the selected note in time.
• + / -: Increase or decrease note duration.
• Shift with timing movement uses finer 64th-note adjustment.
• Shift + Drag: Temporarily use finer 64th-note snapping while dragging or resizing a note with the mouse.
• Backspace: Undo the last edit action.
• Delete: Delete the selected note.
• Insert: Insert a new note.
• Enter: Commit the current edit and regenerate immediately.
• Escape: Deselect the current note.
• Space: Play or pause.
• Page Up / Page Down: Scrub while paused.

MML to MIDI

• Paste MML into the text box to analyze and preview it.
• The app shows counters, the instrument selector, piano roll, and save controls automatically.
• Use OPTIMIZE MML when you want to slim pasted MML before saving it back to MIDI.
• Download actions are login-gated. When logged out, download buttons are disabled and show a login-required tooltip.

Export Panel

• The export section only appears when at least one track card is visible.
• Export All Tracks to MIDI: Saves the visible arrangement as a multitrack MIDI file.
• Export Tracks as MML: Saves every visible card into one text file using the same multi-section format used by Shared MML storage.
• The export form includes File Name, Song Title, Original Artist, Submitter, and visibility settings.
• Submitter auto-fills from the logged-in nickname.
• Clicking SAVE ALL MML CODE still downloads the text file locally and, when logged in, also stores the song in your Shared MML library.

Shared MML

Accounts and Login

• Create an account or log in to save songs to your library, manage visibility, edit your nickname, and unlock download actions.
• Use Account to update your public nickname. The nickname is used as the Submitter name when saving songs.
• Forgot-password requests send a reset link by email. Opening that link brings up the create-new-password modal, and a successful reset logs the user in immediately.

Searching and Browsing

• Search by song title, artist, or submitter.
• All lists everything, Solo lists 1-player songs only, and Ensemble lists songs with 2 or more cards.
• The shared tab also shows the 20 most recent public submissions for quick browsing.
• Click OPEN to load a song into Song Detail for preview.

Library and Visibility

• Shared songs can be saved as Public, Unlisted, or Private.
• Public songs appear in search. Unlisted songs stay out of search but open through direct links. Private songs are owner-only.
• Player counts are shown as 1 Player through 5 Players instead of generic card counts.
• Song title and artist are inline-editable in My Library.
• Use Copy Link when you want to share a direct song URL, especially for Unlisted songs.

Song Detail

• Its PREVIEW ALL button previews all stored cards for that song together.
• Each stored card can also be previewed independently from the database-loaded MML.

Preview and Playback

• PREVIEW ALL on the main board plays all visible, unmuted cards together.
• The custom ArcheRage Drum Kit loads from the local drumkit folder and is octave-aligned for playback.
• The full-page video background is decorative only and does not affect generated MML. If you don't care much for it, then you can turn it off or provide a different scenic YouTube video. Configure it by clicking on the Background link on your avatar. You must be logged in.
• Master volume, tempo, and note peak controls affect listening only.

Practical Tips
